More Baby Photos from Betty

The female parent incubates the eggs (for a long time, over a month from laying to hatch!) and shelters the young from heat and cold. Hatch to first flight also is slow, another 50 to 55 days. For a long time chicks were suspected but not seen. But now the chicks are big enough to move around and not be always under mom. Yesterday I saw two chick heads. They were moving around, stretching their still mostly downy wings. (Text and photos by Nancy/Betty Baumeister.)
