Linda E.
My roots are in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was born in San Francisco in 1947 and grew up in the nearby suburb of San Carlos. My parents were conservative in their politics (ie. Republican). I learned a different approach as a freshman in high school. I had a teacher for world geography who was considered a pinko radical by the community (early 60's). He taught us the difference between communism with a small "c" and Communism with a big "C". He also taught us that it's not what you're against (ie. anti-Communist) but what you are for that matters. Thus was planted the seed of my current progressivism and concern for peace and justice for all people on the planet.
I went to U.C.Berkeley in the last half of the sixties and majored in art, not chemistry as initially intended. I decided to make art the center of my life and earned a Master's Degree in art from San Francisco State University in 1981. Since then I have taught art through community colleges. I currently teach senior citizens. My specialty is watercolor.
In 1984 I was introduced to white water by a housemate. First I rafted and soon realized I needed to kayak. Kayaking has been a passion of mine for close to 20 years. I love the water. I'm also an avid swimmer.
I've had organic gardens in the past and that is something I look forward to participating in again.
I have a very strong interest in creating a sustainable green planet where all living things and resources are respected and not exploited. This ties in with my love of rivers and natural environments and is a prerequisite for creating the peaceful and just world society I desire.
I became interested in Coho because I have felt very isolated in my lifestyle. I don't have close family so have begun to see cohousing as an alternative way to create a mutually supportive community in which to grow and share one's life. I have found the group of people in Coho to be exceptionally caring and inclusive. I seems to attract loving people with wonderful energies.
